The company manufactures a broad range of automated laboratory instruments that measure physical characteristics of powders and solids for fundamental research, product development, quality assurance and control, production and process control applications.

Measurements obtained include particle size, particle count, surface area, pore volume, pore size and pore size distribution, material density, catalytic activity and temperature-programmed reactions.

Particulate Systems, a Micromeritics brand, offers instruments that are complementary to Micromeritics' core product line. Material characterization analyses include nano particle size, zeta potential, particle shape, high-pressure adsorption isotherms, dynamic vapor sorption, activity and selectivity of catalysts, surface energy, segregation testing, powder strength and magnetic content.

Analytical services

Micromeritics operates Micromeritics Analytical Services (MAS) and PoroTechnology, each providing contract sample analyses and consulting services. Surface area and porosity analyzers

Micromeritics offers a variety of gas adsorption analyzers to fulfill almost any surface area and porosity need. The 3Flex™ is a fully automated, three-station instrument capable of high-throughput surface area, mesopore, micropore and chemisorption analyses. Each analysis station is upgradeable from mesopore to micropore with the option of designating one station for chemisorption analyses.

The ASAP® 2020 accelerated surface area and porosimetry system can obtain high-quality data for research and quality control applications. Surface area, porosity, chemisorption and sample preparation capability are integrated into a single cabinet. Adsorption and desorption analyses can be performed with a variety of adsorptives, including vapors.

The ASAP 2460 surface area and porosimetry analyzer is a unique expandable system designed for upgradeable high-performance and high sample throughput. It can be configured as a two, four or six-station bench top system. The base ASAP 2460 is a two-port master control unit. For additional throughput, two-port auxiliary units can be connected to the master unit expanding the system to either a four-port or six-port analyzer. All analysis ports can be operated independently and concurrently.

Chemisorption analyzers

The AutoChem® II 2920 performs a full array of highly precise, temperature-programmed studies. It uses the dynamic (flowing gas) technique to perform pulse chemisorption and temperature-programmed method: reduction (TPR), desorption (TPD), oxidation (TPO) and reactions (TPSR), as well as BET surface area evaluations. The instrument gives the researcher the ability to obtain valuable information about the physical properties of catalysts, catalyst support and a variety of other materials.

Particulate Systems Effi microreactor is a highly advanced modular laboratory system for measuring the activity and selectivity of catalysts. The standard platform can be easily adapted to the user's catalytic testing needs with a variety of configurations and options. The system is compact, completely automated and equipped with innovative process-control technology.

It can accommodate a wide variety of reactions, including hydrocracking, hydrotreating, isomerization, hydrogenation, hydrodesulphurization (HDS), oxidation, hydrodenitrogenation (HDN), reforming (aromatization), GTL (Fischer-Tropsch) and steam reforming.


The AutoPore® IV series porosimeters use mercury intrusion and extrusion to determine pore size distribution, total pore volume, percent porosity, density, compaction / compression and fluid transport properties. Enhanced data reduction package includes tortuosity, permeability, compressibility, pore-throat ratio, fractal dimension, Mayer-Stowe particle size distribution and more.

Particle size analyzers

The Saturn DigiSizer® II laser particle size analyzer uses advanced optics, CCD technology and more than three million detector elements to deliver a high-resolution measurement of articulations in the scattering pattern. This allows a high degree of size discrimination or resolution. Higher size resolution reveals information about the material that goes undetected with other laser particle sizing systems, providing more accurate results. It automatically determines both organic and inorganic particle sizes ranging from 40nm to 2.5mm.

Micromeritics' SediGraph® III Plus particle size analyzer uses X-ray absorption to measure mass concentration and Stokes' Law to determine particle size in the range of 0.1µm to 300µm. Complete sample mass accountability ensures that the entire introduced sample is accounted for, including material outside the measurement range. The instrument features a lifetime (seven-year) warranty on the X-ray tube.


The AccuPyc® II 1340 is a fully automatic helium displacement pycnometer that produces high-speed, high-precision volume measurements and density determinations of powders, solids and slurries with volumes of 0.01cm³ to 350cm³. Helium pycnometry is recognized as one of the most reliable techniques for obtaining skeletal volume and density.

The GeoPyc® 1360 uses a quasi-fluid displacement medium composed of non-hazardous microspheres with a high degree of flowability that do not wet the sample or fill its pores. It determines envelope volume and density of monolithic samples, as well as the bulk volume and density of powdered materials. The GeoPyc pycnometer automatically calculates the total pore volume when the skeletal volume is known (as determined by the AccuPyc II 1340) and is nondestructive for most samples.
